If you love that tight, fresh, noticeably rejuvenated feeling after a great skin visit, protect it with one simple rule: keep the area clean, lightly moisturized with petroleum jelly, and covered for the first 24 to 48 hours. That’s the difference between a smooth heal and an irritated spot that lingers.
I do Skin Tag Removal in Phoenix, and our sun and heat matter. Dry air can tempt you to “let it air out, ” and sweaty weather can push you back into the gym too soon. Below is the no-guesswork plan I give clients so you can get back to your routine with minimal downtime.
First 24–48 hours: clean, protect, don’t “dry heal”
My baseline aftercare: gently cleanse twice daily with mild soap and water, pat dry, apply a thin layer of petroleum jelly, then re-cover with a sterile dressing for the first 24 to 48 hours.
Do this
- Wash your hands before touching the area. It sounds basic, but it prevents most avoidable irritation.
- Keep the dressing clean and dry. Swap it if it gets damp from sweat or water.
- If you notice mild oozing the first day, that can be normal. A clean bandage and a little petroleum jelly usually keeps it calm.
Avoid this
- No soaking (baths, pools, hot tubs). Quick showers are usually fine, but skip long, steamy ones.
- Don’t use alcohol, hydrogen peroxide, or harsh “spot” products unless I tell you to. They can slow healing by over-drying the tissue.
- No intense cardio, sauna, or anything that makes you drip sweat for 48 to 72 hours. In Phoenix summers, that includes outdoor walks at peak heat.
Days 3–7: the scab stage is where people mess up
Around day three, most spots start to dry down and form a small scab or crust. That’s normal. The goal this week is simple: leave it alone, keep it clean, and don’t bake it in the Phoenix sun.
Don’t pick or peel. If you pull a scab early, you’re more likely to get prolonged redness and a mark that hangs around longer than it needs to.
Keep doing
- Gentle cleansing twice a day. Pat dry, don’t rub.
- If the area feels tight or itchy, a tiny amount of petroleum jelly can help. It keeps the scab from cracking.
- Stay out of pools and hot tubs until the skin is fully closed and scabbed over, typically 7 to 14 days.
Watch your products
If the removal is on the face or neck, keep your skincare simple in that exact area for the first week. Hold off on exfoliating acids, retinoids, and strong scrubs right on the spot. I’m big on explaining the “why” during appointments, because when you understand the rationale, you’re less likely to accidentally irritate the skin trying to help it.
Days 8–14: sun protection and scar prevention in Phoenix
Week two is usually where things look “basically fine, ” but this is when sun can sneak in and darken healing skin. Phoenix has year-round UV, so if the area is exposed, I want you thinking about protection daily.
Once the skin is healed over: apply a broad-spectrum SPF 30+ on the area if it’s exposed. Hats and shade still count, especially during hot, dry summers.
If I recommend it for you: silicone gel can help support a smoother-looking finish after the skin has closed. Don’t start this on an open spot.
And if you’re pairing Skin Tag Removal with other skin goals, this is a good time to ask about what fits next. A lot of my regulars come in for advanced skin treatments too, so if you’ve been searching for a facial spa near me, chemical peel near me, or dermaplaning near me, I’ll help you time it so you’re not doing too much at once.
Red flags I don’t want you to ignore (and how to get help fast)
Some redness and tenderness can be normal early on. What I don’t want is the kind of change that signals irritation or infection. If anything feels “off, ” I’d rather you reach out sooner than sit on it.
Call for follow-up if you notice increasing redness, warmth, spreading streaks, yellow or green drainage, bad odor, worsening pain, or fever.
I’m located near the North Central Phoenix (Biltmore / Sunnyslope corridor), so if you’re in Phoenix, Scottsdale, Paradise Valley, Glendale, Peoria, or Tempe, you can usually get quick local follow-up if something starts to redden or drain.
“Thank you for loving what you do, it shows!”

Quick recap: the 2-week plan that keeps healing on track
- Days 1–2: cleanse twice daily, petroleum jelly, sterile dressing, no soaking, no heavy sweat.
- Days 3–7: scab is normal, don’t pick, avoid pools and hot tubs, keep skincare gentle right on the spot.
- Days 8–14: once healed over, protect with SPF 30+ in Phoenix sun; reach out if redness, drainage, odor, streaking, worsening pain, or fever shows up.
